III. The Meaning of Self-Care

Self-care is the practice of taking care of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your life to promote health and wellness. Verywell Health

Self-care is defined as the activities that individuals undertake to improve or restore their own health (Levin & Idler, 1983).

   A. Negative reactions to the term “self-care”

When someone mentions the word “self-care,” what is your reaction?

Is it negative or positive?
Maybe you believe self-care is selfish?

   B. Pausing and Questioning the underlying beliefs about selfishness

Understanding the “why” behind these underlying patterns and beliefs has the potential to 

change our lives.

   C. Reframing as “soul-care” – caring for yourself
