As January rolls around, we tend to reflect on the previous year, where the time went, and what we accomplished. For some, it was a great year. For others, it was a challenging year, and they barely seemed to get by. No matter what group you find yourself in, there are areas of your life you would like to change.
So, where do we begin?
The first step towards healing and change is admitting our needs. The tricky part is that we tend to see ourselves as better than average compared to others. This concept is commonly known as the better-than-average effect.
It doesn’t take a genius to understand that everyone cannot be above average.
Blind Spots
We all have blind spots and tend to have a hard time defining what needs work. By looking at our lives from an outside-in perspective, we can identify areas that need to change. For some, this might be an easy process, but for many, this can prove to be a real challenge.
If you struggle to identify your blind spots, I encourage you to practice objectivity. This sounds complex, but it boils down to asking yourself some questions and reflecting on the answers to these questions.
Still stuck? Sometimes, it helps to do this with others in a safe community. In the Overflow Community, this is our focus this week.
