It’s now January, which means several things. Depending on where you call home, it could mean colder weather or warm weather. Much of the talk on social media is about making changes, forming new habits, etc. This may be exciting to you, or it might cause you a bit of frustration.
I am not here to try and get you to set some resolutions for the new year. I’m not here to convince you to sign up for a class to lose weight or build muscle. I won’t try to convince you to set a budget or get out of debt. I won’t ask you to start some new hobby or embrace a new extreme sport.
IF you want to change some area of your life, that is up to you.
I also acknowledge that changes like our brain health are often outside our control.
If you are reading this, I bet you probably want something better in some area of your life. Since the Overflow Community serves those struggling with anxiety, depression, or other brain health challenges, maybe you want something better in that area. Perhaps you are looking to better support someone who struggles with brain health.
I hope last week’s issue of Overflow Weekly got you thinking or at least curious about Reset. I hope you are ready because this week, we will dive into the first chapter, Stop Before You Start – Pause.
Why PAUSE?
You may have read or listened to the last chapter and are ready to go. So why should we pause?
Debra Fileta says that when we take time to pause, “It gives your body and mind a chance to recalibrate, to literally reset. Science shows us that when you take the time to pause, to reset your brain from all the noise, your brain is doing some much-needed processing work.”
Let us look at what the Bible has to say about getting alone to pause.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
”Pause a moment, Job, and listen; consider the wonderful things God does.“ Job 37:14 GNT
”After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.“ Matthew 14:23 NLT
Let’s pause before we rush to make positive changes in our lives. Take time to tune out so you can tune in. We need to get alone in a quiet place to silence the noise and allow our bodies to do some much-needed work. It’s time to get away so we can seek all God has for our lives.
This is not a practice one does every once in a while. This is an excellent practice for everyday living.
How will you take time to PAUSE today?
